(Liberal) for Drogheda 1837-52, for Canterbury 1854-65, Under Secretary Home Department 1846-47, Chief Secretary for Ireland 1847-52, and P.C. 22 July 1847. He was raised to the Peerage of Ireland (") 14 Dec. 1863, being cr. BARON ATHLUMNEY OF SOMERVILLE AND DOLLARDSTOWN, co. Meath [I.], and, within three years, was cr., 3 May 1866, BARON MEREDYTH of Dollardstown, co. Meath [U.K.]. He was a respectable Parliamentary official. He w., istly, 22 Dec. 1832, (spec, lie.) in Hamilton Place, St. Geo., Han. Sq., Maria Harriet, yst. da. of Henry (Conyngham), ist Marquess Conyngham [I.], by Elizabeth, da. of Joseph Denison. She d. s.p.m.s., 3 Dec. 1843. He m., 2ndly, at the British Embassy, Paris, 16 Oct. i860, Maria Georgiana Elizabeth, only da. of Herbert George Jones, Serjeant at Law, by Maria Alicia, 2nd da. of Sir George William Leeds, ist Bart. [18 12]. He d. at Waterloo Crescent, Dover, Kent, 7, and was bur. 13 Dec. 1873, at Kents- town, CO. Meath. Will pr. 20 Jan. 1874. His widow, who was b. 24 June 1 83 1, d., aged 67, at Frant, Sussex, 6, and was bur. 11 Jan. 1899, at Kentstown. Will dat. 21 Apr. 1897, pr. 16 Feb. 1899.
