Earl of March, £;fc. [E.]. On 16 Feb. 1623/4 he sue. his elder br. as C) J. le Laboureur, Les Tombeaux dcs Personna Illustres, 1642, p. 170. Accord- ing to J.B. Bouillet, Nohiliairc d'Auvergne^ 1 846-53, vol. v, p. 212, she was da. of Henry de Rohan ["1], Seigneur d'Espinay. But Anne, da. of Henry d'Espinay, Seigneur d'Espinay in Brittany (nephew of Jacques above-named), m. (cont. 22 Sep. 1511), Jacques de Beauvau, Seigneur de Tigny in Anjou, who d. in 1553. Bouillet's absurd mistake of attributing the surname of Rohan to the great family of Espinay has been freely copied by English writers. Anne de la Queuille d. 5 Sep. 1 540 ; her heart was bur. in the Church of the Celestins at Paris. The arms on the tablet there were her husband's, Sable, a cross engrailed Or (la Queuille), quartering, Gules, a lion rampant Or (probably Fleurac) : and her own, Argent, a lion rampant per fesse Gules and Vert, armed langued and crowned Or (Espinay), quartering. Gules, 9 mascles Or, a label of 4 points Argent (Montauban) ; over all, Argent, a snake coiled in pale Azure, crowned Or, and swallowing an infant Gules (Visconti oj Parma). These arms are incorrectly described in The Stuarts of Aubigny, p. 88, Montauban being attributed to " Rohan de Montauban " [hV], and Espinay being wrongly blazoned and attributed to Armagnac [Argent, a lion rampant Gules, quart- ering, Gules, a lion rampant guardant Or (Rodez.)~, which latter arms, though sometimes quartered by Montauban [not Rohan', do not appear on the tomb. C") This is the date always given, but there is no enrolment of the creation. (D.K. Reports, no. 47, Appendix, p. 105). He appears, however, as Lord Aubigny, 10 June 1619. {Ca/. of State Papers, Domestic, 16x9-23, p. 52). 43
