After an exile of ten years, he returned to Scotland in 1700, and was received at court by Queen Anne. He voted in favour of the Scottish Union. He obtained likewise a pension of ^^foo a year for ten years in lieu of the one of ;/!^iooo lost at the Revolution. P.C. (again) Apr. 1705. His attachment to the House of Stuart led him to join the Rising of 1 71 5, but having surrendered himself, he was included in the indemnity. He was author of An account of the affairs in Scotland relating to the Revolution, 1688, and as such has a place among Walpole's Noble Authors.
