When he was made a Cardinal, he was popularly known as " Cardinal York. " He (/., unm., 13 July 1807, in his 83rd year, being the last legitimate descendant of James II. James Francis Fitz James, styled Earl of Tinmouth (being s. and h. ap. of James, (attainted) Duke of Berwick), is stated to have been cr. Marquess of Jamaica, but no proof has been found of such creation. He was also cr. a Spanish Duke, as Duk.e of Liria. In 1734 he sue. his father, and d. 1738. His issue male still (1910) exists. Giovanni Baptista Gualterio, br. of Cardinal Gualterio, cr., shortly before 12 Nov. 1705, Earl of Dundee [S.]. He d. 1740 leaving a s. and h. 17 1 5. Henry (St. John), Viscount Bolingbroke (so cr. by Queen Anne), cr. 26 July 171 5 Earl of Bolingbroke [E.]. Attainted 17 14. He d.s.p., 1751. 17 16. William (Villiers), Earl of Jersey (whose father had been so cr. by William III), cr., in Apr. 17 16, (by the description of " Willi-.im Villiers, s. of Sir Edward Villiers and Barbara, his wife ") Earl of Jersey, Viscount of Dartford and Baron of Hoo [E.]. He d. 1 72 1, being ancestor of the succeeding Earls of Jersey. 1 716. Barbara, widow of Edward, ist Earl of Jersey (so cr. by William III) was on the same date as her son William next above mentioned, granted the title and precedency of a Countess, as Countess of Jersey [E.]. 1721. The Hon. James Murray (2nd s. of David, 5th Viscount Stormont [S.], and elder br. of William, cr., in 1776, Earl of Mansfield), who had been one of Queen Anne's Commissioners for settling the trade with France, was cr., 2 Feb. 1 720/1, Earl of Dunbar, Viscount Drumcairn, and Lord of Hadykes [S.].
