" A person whose immense vanity, bordering upon insanity, obscured or rather eclipsed very con- siderable talents." (Sir Walter Scott). " Lord Buchan lived very near us, and came in most mornings in hisshepherd's plaid, with his long white hair flowing over his shoulders.
