And that they may ufe and exerce the fame office conjundllie or feverallie , as occafion fall ferve and require : And the equaU'halfe of the faidis victualles , to be applyed to the ufe and commoditie of ilk Burgh : And the uther halfe , to the Kingis ufe. And fik-like , grantis the fame power to the Baillies of all Regalities and Burrowes of the fame , quhair-unto the faidis Burrowes , and Baillies of Regalities , fall be halden to an- fwere zeirlie of their diligence, in the premiiles. 56. ITEM, It is ftatute and ordained, be OUR SOVERAINE LORD, with advife of the Eftaites of this prefent Parliament : That na perfon qufrat-fumever within this Realme, keepe, hald, or inter- tefnie ony Horfe at hard meate , after the firft day oijunij zeirlie , in time dimming ; Except Earles, Lordes and Barronnes , quha, and ilk ane of them may fpend twa thoufand poiuids of zeirlie rent , at the leaft. And fra the faid firft daye oijunij zeirlie ; It is permitted to ilk Earle and Lorde , ilk ane of them to halde and m- terteinie, at the hard meate, twaHorfesatthemaift : And ilk Barrone , ane Horfe onelie. With certifi- cation to the contraveeners of die faid AcTe , that it fall be lauchfull to the Schireffe of ilk SchirefFedome , and their deputes , to efcheit and intromet with their Horfe , quhair-ever the famin may be apprehended. Anent victualling of Schifpes r gaffing to the North fifchinges,, and caution to be found for their returning. ITEM, OUR SOVERAINE LORD, And his three Eftaites , convcened in this prefent Parlia- ment , ftaturis and ordainis , that die cuftumares and fearchers , fall take inquifition and note , quhat quan- titieofvictuall every Schippe or Veflell, takis in at her palling to Loch-broome , and utheris the North Iks, and loches in the Harveftfcafon infixing : And take fovertie that diey fall returne the thrid part of their lading of Herring or quhite-fiih, within this Firth , or utheris free Burrowes , to be fold to OUR SOVE- RAINE LORDIS Lieges, fordieirfuftentation, and furnifhing of the Countrie , under the paine of ane hundreth pundes. 58. Anent licences to be granted for eating offlefh, hi forbidden time. Againft the eaters of flefli in Lentron, and upon Wednef-day , Fry day e , and Setter -day , everieoulk; And ordainis the fame to have full eftecl and execution in time cumming : With fpeciall provifion , that na licences fall be granted for eating of flefh on the faidis dayes , in time cumming ; Except the defirer thereof , report a Teftimoniall , fubfcribed be a Doctor of Medicine , or be the Minifter of die Parochin , quhairin he d wellis , that fik a perfon is ficklie, and necellarlie mon have the faid licence : And then to be granted , upon the compofition of xx, pundes : to be payed to the Thefaurer therefore. And in-cafe onie licences fall be procured for onie Flelhers to llaie and fell flefli , on the faidis dayes , and time of Lentron , Or to Cookes to prepare diem , and make diem reddie : The faid licence fall not pafle the Signet , quhill the partie in quhais favoures itispurchefled, pay for the fame licence to his Hienefle Thefaurer, the fumme of ane hundreth pundes , I without defalcation , or compofition. 59. THEREFORE His Hiencile, with advife of his three Eftaites of this prefent Parliament , lies ratified and appreeved the faidis haill Acl:es in all poyntes, pafles , claufes and articles theirof , wit h dils addition ; That the flayers and fchurters of Hart , Hinde, Dae, Rae, Haires, Cunninges, and uthers Beafts , without licence, or allowance of the awners, ifall be like cryme to the committers , as the ftealers of Horfe and Oxen , and the committars thereof, fall in- curre the paine and punifliment , dew to the cryme of thieft.
