Andrews , T)um- blain, Dunkeld, Brichin and Qrknay , for the Univerfities of St . Andrews , and the Vacancies within the Diocefs of Edinburgh , for the Colledge of Edinburgh • and the Vacancies within the Diocefles of Aberdeen, Murray, Rofs and Caithnefs, for the Univerfities of Aberdeen; and the Vacancies within the Diocefles oiGlafgow , Galloway and the Ifles as follows , viz. The Vacancies ot theDiocefs of Glafgow for this prefent year , onethoufand, fix hundred, and feventytwo, to be employed , the one half for the Univerfity of S£. Andrews, and the other half for the Univerfity of Glafgow ; and the Vacancies of that Diocefs for the fix years enfuing , with the Vacancies of the faid two Diocefles of Galloway and the fles for the whole feven years above-mentioned , to be employed for the Univerfity oiGlaJgow. And that this fup- ply may prove the more effectual , The feveral Univerfities and Colledges are hereby warranted to name Col- lectors ( for whofe diligence and faithfulnefle , they are to receive fufficient Caution before they receive theit CommifTions ) to uplift die Vacand Stipends which are or fhall become Vacand during the feven years above- mentioned , within the refpedtive Diocefles hereby allotted to them ; The Collector to be appointed by the Colledge of Glafgow , to uplift the Vacancies of the Diocefs oiGlafgow , alwayes finding fufficient Caution at the fight of the Univerfity of St . Andrews , to make payment to that Univerfity and to the Uniterfuy of Glafgow, equally betwixt them.of the Vacancies which he fhall receive within the faid Diocefs oiGlafgow for this prefent year , one thoufand , fix hundred , & feventy two ; And his Majefty, with advice forefaid, Ordains Letters ot Horning,and all other execution necefTary,to pafs at the inftance of the faids Collectors,* or the more fpeedy raifmg & inbringing of the Vacancies aforefaid .• which Vacancies are to be difpofed oftx imployed for the ufe of the refpedtiveUniverfities and Colledges yearly , by the Vifitors to be appointed by his Majefty for the refpeftive Univerfities and Colledges under the Great Seal. It is alwayes hereby Declared , that the Va- cancies mall be burdened with the up-holding of the Manfes of thefe Parodies , out of which the Vacancies ftiallberaifed, in the fame manner as they were formerly upon removal of the Incumbent, conform to the Ad of Parliament made thereanent : and as to the Vacancies of the Diocefs of Argyl, they are to be imployed. for maintenance of Buffar s, as is appointed by former Adts of Parliament: And His Majefty , with advice forefaid , Declares the former Adt paft in the third i5effion of His Majefties firft Parliament , Entituled , x_A£ffor additional Trovifion in favours of Vniverfittes , to be void and null to all the intents therein contained. XXI. A C T concerning the Trivi ledges of the Office of Lyon King at Armes. Edinburgh, 10. of September, i6y%. OUR Soveraign Lord, confidering, that albeit by the 125-. Act of the iz. Parliament, holdenby His Majefties Grand-father in the year, i^qx. the ufurpation of Armes by any of His Majefties Leidges , without the Authority of the Lyon King of Armes , is exprefly difcharged ; And that in order there- to, power and Commiffion is granted to the Lyon King, of Armes , or his Deputies to vifit the whole Armes of Noble-men , Barons andGentle-men , and to matriculate the fame in their Regifters , and to fine in one hun- dred pounds, all others who fhall unjuftly ufurp Armes ; As alfo to efcheat all fuch Goods and Gear , as fhall have unwarrantable Armes ingraven on them. Yer, amongft the many irregularities of thefe late times , very many have aflumed to themfelvesArmes.who mould bear none,and many of thefe who may in Law bear,have aflumed to themfelves the Armes of their Chief, without diftindtions , or Armes which were not carried by them or their Predeceflbrs. Therefore, His Majefty, with advice and confent of His Eftates of Parlia- ment , Ratifies and Approves the forefaid Acl: of Parliament ; And for the more vigorous profecution thereof, doth hereby Statute and Ordain , that letters of publication of this prefent Act be direct to be execute at the' Mercat-crofs of the head Burghs of the Shires, Stewartries, Bailieriesof Royalty and Regality,and Royal Bur- roughs , charging all and fundry Prelats , Noble-men , Barons and Gentle-men , who make ufe of any Arms or Signs Armorial, within the fpace of one year after the faid publication to bring or fend an account of what Arms, or Signs armorial they are accuftomed to ufe, and whither they be Defend- ants of any Family, the Arms of which Family they bear, and of what Brother of the Family they are defcended ; With Teftificats from perfons of Honour , Noble-men or Gentle-men of quality, anent the verity of their having and ufing thofeArms, and of their defcent as aforefaid, to be delivered either to the Clerk of the Jurifcliction where the perfons dwels , or to the Lyon Clerk , at his Office in Edinburgh * at the option of the party, upon their Receipts gratis, without paying any thing therefore 5 Which Receipt fhall be a fufficient exoneration to them, from being oblieged to produce again, to the effect j that the Lyon King of Arms may diftinguifh the faids Arms , with congruant Differences , and may mat- riculate the fame in his Books and Regifters , and may give Arms to vertuous and well deferving perfons , and Extracts of all Arms , expreffingtheblafoningof the Arms under his hand and Seal of Office ; For which fhall be payed to the Lyon , the fum ot twenty merks , by every Prelat & Noble-man , and ten merks be every Knight and Baron, and five merks by every other perfon bearing Arms, and no more: And His Majefty
