SIR PATRICK MAXWELL, of Springkell, co. Dumfries, knighted before 4 Mar. 1680, created a Baroxet OF NOVA Scotia 7 Feb. 1683, with remainder to his issue male ; m. 1st, dau. of Lord Dacre, of Cumberland, s. p. He m. 2ndly, Mary Gordon, dau. of Alexander, 6th Viscount of Ken- mure (ext.); he d. 1722, aged 83, having had a sou and 4 daus. His great-grandson, SIR JOHN SHAW HERON-MAXWELL, 4th Baronet (on the death of his father. Sir William, 4 Mar. 1804), lieut.- gen. in the army, lieut.-col. 23rd light di-agoons, M.P. Dumfi-ies burghs 1807, assiuned on the death of his father-in-law the additional sm-name and arms of Herox ; b. 29 June, 1772 : d. 29 Jan. 1830, having m. 4 Jan. 1802, Mary, only sm-viving child and heir of Patrick Heron, Esq. of Heron, in the stew- artry of Galloway, M.P.
