To M——.

Ah, could it be, a hand unseen
Just for a moment drew the screen?
I saw a face remembered—known,
Now radiant by a shining throne.

That face oft seen among the flowers,
Where dewdrops clung in early hours!
Was it a carol or a breeze,
A fragrance blown from budding trees?

Garlands of flowers, O Love Divine!
Garlands of flowers, O heart of mine!
In stilly night, a presence near;
An ecstasy of joy, a tear!
