mentioned in sub-paragraph (1) of this paragraph shall be coloured black except that if those containers enclose lamps of the light signals prescribed by Regulation 31(3), 36 or 39 of the Regulations, they may be coloured grey instead of black.

(5) Where any of the kinds of light signals mentioned in sub-paragraph (1) of this paragraph are mounted with a backing board, that board shall be coloured black and have a white border not less than 45 nor more than 55 millimetres in width unless those light signals are signals prescribed by Regulation 31(3), 36, 38 or 39 of the Regulations when the said white border may be omitted.

(6) Without prejudice to the next following sub-paragraph, where light signals prescribed by any of the Regulations specified in sub-paragraph (1) of this paragraph are mounted on a post specially provided for the purpose, that part of the post which extends above ground level shall be coloured grey and may have one white band not less than 140 nor more than 160 millimetres in depth, the lower edge of the band being not less than 1.5 nor more than 1.7 metres above the level of the surface of the ground in the immediate vicinity.

(7) In the case of light signals prescribed by Regulation 33 of the Regulations, instead of being mounted on a post coloured in accordance with the provisions of the last preceding sub-paragraph, they may be mounted on cither a post coloured yellow (but having no such white band as therein specified) or alternatively on a tripod coloured yellow.

35.—(1) In relation to light signals for pedestrians such as are prescribed by Regulation 35 of the Regulations, sub-paragraph (1)(b) and (c) of the last preceding paragraph shall apply as if for the references in that sub-paragraph to light signals such as are prescribed by Regulations 31 to 33, 36 and 39 of the Regulations there were substituted references to light signals such as are prescribed by the said Regulation 35 and as if the expression "if the said signals are signals prescribed by Regulation 31(2) of the Regulations or such signals as varied by Regulation 32 thereof, then" were omitted from sub-paragraph (1)(c)(ii) of the said paragraph.

(2) The container enclosing the said light signals for pedestrians shall be coloured black and where those light signals are mounted on a post specially provided for the purpose, sub-paragraph (6) of the last preceding paragraph shal! apply in relation to those signals so mounted as aforesaid in the same way as it applies to light signals of the kinds mentioned in sub-paragraph (1) of the said paragraph.

36. Where a sign shown in a diagram in Schedule 1 other than a sign shown in diagram 651, or 845 to 852 is mounted on a post specially provided for the purpose that part of the post which extends above ground level shall be coloured grey except

(a) in a case where different provision as to the colouring of the post is made in the foregoing provisions of these Directions;

(b) in a case where the post is constructed of concrete and in this event it shall remain in its natural colour, or

(c) in a case where the post is not likely to be readily visible to pedestrians and in this last mentioned case the post shall be coloured grey but with one white band of not less than 140 nor more than 160 millimetres in depth, the lower edge of the band being between 1.5 and 1.7 metres above the level of the surface of the ground in the immediate vicinity.
