Permitted Variants: The name of a country may be added to or substituted for that of a county or region. The crest may he omitted. The lettering may be in any colour except red providing a contrast is maintained with the background. The background may be any colour except red, yellow or dark green

Permitted Variants: The name of a river, inland waterway or a road junction may be substituted for the name of a town or village. The name of the district council may be omitted. In London the name of a London Borough may be substituted for the district council name. The crest of a town, village or in London the Borough may be added The lettering may be in any colour except red providing a contrast is maintained with the background. The background may be any colour except red, yellow, or dark green. The name of one town outside the United Kingdom with which the town is associated may be added beneath that indication either preceded by the words "TWIN TOWN—" may be added beneath the town name in letters the same height as the district council name
