On or about March 27, 1973, the President instructed
John Ehrlichman to contact Richard Kleindienst; on or about March 28, 1973, Ehrlichman had a telephone con- versation with Kleindienst in which Ehrlichman told Kleindienst that the President's "best information" was
that no one in the White House had "prior knowledge" of
the Watergate break—in, but that sérious questiOns were being raised about John Mitchell, and the President wished to have Kleindienst communicate privately with the President
if Kleindienst obtained any information concerning Mitchell.
