I sincerely say that I take a great interest in all that is connected with agriculture. The very backbone of the Country, the best recruits of the Army and Navy, come from the agricultural districts. . . . . I may say that what will do more than anything else towards making a country prosperous is the extension of its agriculture. . . . It is impossible for any British gentleman to live at his country place without taking an interest in agriculture.
