THE WATER SPIDERS.— 7ETRAGNATHA.
They have long bodies and long, slender legs which they stretch in front and behind when sitting on the web. The web resembles £pezra's but is placed inclined or horizontal.
The eyes are in two parallel rows.
1. 7. elongata. % in. long. Breast part brownish yellow with three stripes. Body part light and dark brown, Legs brownish yellow with spots.
2. T. extensa. ¥% in. long. Colors like 7. elongata.
a 1 3. 7. laboriosa. ¥% in, long. Chest part light yellow. Body part \ B silvery white with transparent marks, sometimes green. Under side mS dark with two light stripes. Legs light yellow. \ PACHYGNATHA. f Does not spin a web to catch insects. It lives under leaves and stones, on y dry land with a Theridium-like shaped body and eyes. | 4. P. brevis. ‘4% in. long. Brownish yellow with three dark stripes on chest part and a gray and white stripe on body part. Under
chest part dark red brown. Under body part gray with two yellow stripes. Legs light yellowish brown.
5. P. autumnalis. ¥ in. long. Like Brevis, but darker and brighter.
