GENERALISATION is impossible as regards “life” in Holland. There is a wide difference to be found in the habits of residents in the big cities, the provincial towns, and the villages. The Hague dines at eight, Amsterdam at seven, Utrecht at six, and Edam at three o'clock. With regard to mercantile or professional pursuits the custom varies, unless one considers the habitués of the Beurs, or Exchange.
