On Father's Day, we honor our fathers and celebrate the special bond between a father and a child. Fathers play a si\365nificant role in shapin\365 the character of their children and the future of our country. By spendin\365 time with their sons and dau\365hters and listenin\365 to their experiences, fathers can have a profound impact on their children's lives. As advisors, role models, and friends, fathers help their children to understand the difference between ri\365ht and wron\365 and to reco\365nize how the decisions they make today can affect the rest of their lives. Fathers instill important values and prepare youn\365 people for the challen\365es and opportunities ahead. Throu\365h their daily sacrifices, fathers provide a lovin\365 and secure home in which their children can \365row to be- come successful adults and \365ood citizens. Their love and dedication inspire the next \365eneration of Americans to achieve their dreams and demonstrate the true spirit of our Nation. Father's Day also \365ives us an opportunity to remember the fathers who are currently servin\365 in our Armed Forces. Our Nation is \365fateful for the cour- a\365e and sacrifice of the many proud fathers wearin\365 our country's uniform. By advancin\365 freedom and protectin\365 our way of life, these brave individ- uals are helpin\365 to lay the foundation of peace for our children and \365rand- children. NOW, THEREFORE, I, GEORGE W. BUSH, President of the United States of America, in accordance with a joint resolution of the Congress approved April 24, \177\36572, as amended (30 U.S.C. a0O), do hereby proclaim June as, 2000, as Father's Day. I encourage all Americans to express admiration and appreciation to fathers for their many contributions to our Nation's chil- dren. I direct the appropriate officials of the Government to display the flag of the United States on all Government buildings on this day.
