"Can they overhaul us?" I asks the Cook.
"No, sah!" he says, positive-like, and with a grin. "You jest wait till that p'ison git a fa'r chance!"
And by the time they got within hailin' distance, most o' the paddlers had keeled over, one by one, into the hold o' their canoe.
