THE ROUNDHEAD'S CHAUNT.
THOUGH the way may be long,
Though the wicked may be strong,
God is stronger, and eternity is longer.
Though great Cromwell be dead,
And with him our mighty head,
Wise and tender is the Lord, our one Defender.
Though the weak may fall off,
Though the shallow hearts may scoff,
We are better'd, for without them are less fetter'd.
When the keen searching breeze
Sweeps the dead leaves from the trees,
Then revealed stands the strength before concealed.
