SYMPHONY.

[Gregory.]

IF I were drowned in darkness
While she did float in light,
Then I could dream the hours away,
Nor dread the coming night.

If I alone kept fealty
And she did lightly stray,
Then I should know she ne'er had been,
And turn my thoughts away.

If only for her loving
I loved this maiden mine,
It might be that my soul would seek
Some nearer clinging vine.
