A DREAM.
[Gregory.]
LOVE, I was dreaming, was dreaming,
It is better to sleep than to wake,
You and I were at rest, in the land of the blest,
You had followed me there for love's sake.
We were standing, like children, a-gazing
On the Lamb, and His white white throne ;
We were listening mute to the sound of the lute,
For the song was a song unknown.
And a shadow came over our spirit,
As we opened our mouths and were dumb ;
There was light in the air, there was melody there,
But no angel to us said "Come."
