Be it enacted by the Senawemd House of Representatives of the United Approval of con- States of Amewm in Congress assembled, That the approval and sanction '*’*"'°“°’?· "°°·· °f of Congress is hereby given to the construction, operation, and mainm, ‘XQ;iE§g‘;rQ%% 1}),,5; nance of n streetrailroad by the Anacostia and Potomac River Railroad tomno River Rail- Company, of Washington Uity, District of Columhia, a company incor- ¤>¤d €<>¤¤r¤¤y- pomted under the not of Congress of May fifth, eighteenhundred and g;7%;· 80* "· 16 seventy, which incorporation is hereby connrmed and validated, along, p' ’upon, and over the following route, in the city of Washington, District Route. of Columbia, namely: Commencing for the eastern terminus of said road, at or near the northern end of the navy-yerd bridge, in the said city, on Eleventh street east; thence upon and along said Eleventh street east to M street south; thence upon and along said M street south to Third street east; thence upon and along said Third street east to N street south ; thence upon and along sa.idN street south to Water street ; thence upon and along said Water street to Twelfth street west; thence upon and mon g said Twelfth street west to Ohio avenue; thence upon and along said Ohio avenue to Fourteenth street west; thence along and upon said Fourteenth street west to the western terminus of said road at the intersection of Pennsylvania avenue and said Fourteenth street westand also on M street south from Third street east to Water street, and on Eleventh street west from Water street to the intersection of Twelfth and B streets southwest; conforming to the grades of said streets and avenues as the same now are, or may hereafter be, established by law: s in gig t r n ok Provided, That said company shall construct at least as single-track road Wl*»¤i¤ ¤ ¤ X ° M ¤ over said route, and open the same to travel within sixteen months after “‘°“°h“‘ the approval of this act: And provided further, That whenever the fore- _ 0¤1°l§F¤°k fvr ¢°· going route shall coincide with the route of any other duly-incorporated
‘ “ g ° ° mrailroad company, or connect portions of such route, but one set of tracks
` shall be used, and each company using the tracks shall contribute equitably to the expense of laying and maintaining them ; the amount to be contributed to beascertained, when the companies disagree, by the supreme court of the District of Columbia, upon application of any company interested, and on notice to and hearing of the parties interested. ` Laying of track Sec. 2. That in the manner of laying its trucks, and paving the same, Md 1>=w¤¤z· this company shall be under the control of the executive authority of the District of Columbia; and it shall pave its tracks, and the spaces between them, und for the space of two ieet beyond the outer line thereof, and keep the same in good order, without expense to the United States or the District of Columbia; and that said pavement shall be as prescribed by the said executive authority of the District of Columbia; and the Rate of mo. rate of fare charged and received by said company shall not exceed tive cents a. passenger for any distance between the termini of said road. Use ofnnvy-yard Sec. 3. That whenever the present navy-yard bridge shall be replaced bridge. by a structure suitable for the passage of a. street-railroad, the company shall_have the right to cross over the same to Uniontown, under uch restrictions and regulations as Congress may provide; and Uniontown shall then become the eastern terminus` of the road; and from Union- Extension ofyond town the company may extend their road by the Good Hope road to the G ¤ S *¤ of U ¤ 1 0 ¤· District line; and for riding over this extension of the road the company
