That the positions of all persons employed as field officers or in the ”Q‘§gj¤,g*§c¤gg;:g)$*· office force of the Coast and Geodetic Survey herein provided for, whose ' services can be dispensed with because of the reduction of appropriations herein made for said survey, shall be vacated and all such vacancies shall be reported to Congress at its next session in the annual book of estimates. OFFICE EXPENSES: For the purchase of new instruments, for ma- Office exp<—¤¤¤¤· terials and supplies required in the instrument shop, carpenter shop, and drawing division, and for books, maps, charts, and subscriptions, nine thousand dollars. For copperplates, chart paper, printer’s ink, copper, zinc, and chemicals for electrotyping and photographing, engraving, printing, photographing, and electrotyping supplies; for extra engraving and drawing; and for photolithographing charts and printing from stone, and copper for immediate use, twenty thousand dollars. For stationery for the office and iield parties, transportation of instruments and supplies, when not charged to party expenses, office gvaigon and horses, fuel, gas, telegrams, ice and washing, six thousand o ars. . For miscellaneous expenses, contingencies of all kinds, office furniture, repairs, and extra labor, and for traveling expenses of assistants and others employed in the office sent on special duty in the service of the onice, four thousand nve hundred dollars. That no part of the money herein appropriated for the Coast and A“¤W¤¤¤¤¤· Geodetic Survey shall be available for allowance to civilian or other officers for subsistence while on duty at Washington (except as herembefore provided for officers of the field force ordered to Washington for consultation with the Superintendent), or to officers of the Navy attached to the Survey, except as now provided by law.
