Office expenses: For the purchase of new instruments, for materials Omco umm and supplies required in the instrument shop, ca enter sho , and drawing division, and for books, scientific and tedgnical boogs and journals and books of reference, maps, charts, and subscriptions; for eopperplates, chart paper, printer's mk, copper, zinc, and chemicals for electrotyping and photogra hing; engraving, printing, hotographintg, and electrotyping surépfies; and or photo ithographing charts an printing from stone an copper for immediate use, and for the emplogment o expert lithogra hers in the office at an expenditure not excee ine; three thousand fivelhundred dollars; for stationery for the office and field parties, transportation of instruments and supplies when not charged to party expenses, office wagon and horses, heating, l'¤hting, and power, telephones, including the operation of switchlhoard, telegrams, ice, and washing, office furniture, repairs, traveling expenses of assistants and others emploved in the olfice sent on special duty in the service of the office, miscellaneous ex enses, contingencies of all kinds, and for extra labor not to exceed) three thousand four hundred dollars; in all, fifty thousand dollars. That no part of the money herein appropriated for the Coast and A“°W¤¤¢¤¤· Geodetic Survey shall be available for a lowance to civilian or other officers for subsistence while on duty at Washington (exceppras hereinbefore provided for officers of the field force ordered to ashington for short periods for consultation with the superintendent), except as now provided by law.
