That nothing in this section shall be construed to extend to balances arising solely from the depreciation of treasury notes, received by such person to be expended in the public service; but in all cases where the salary or pay of any person is withheld in pursuance of this act, it shall be the duty of the accounting officer, if demanded by the party, his agent or attorney, to report forthwith to the agent of the Treasury Department the balance due, and it shall be the duty of the said agent, within sixty days thereafter, to order suit to be commenced against such delinquent and his sureties.

1816, ch. 159.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the claims marked B, described in the supplementary report of the commissioners of the western district of the state of Louisiana, dated the 11th of May, one thousand eight hundred and fifteen, and recommended by them for confirmation, be, and the same are hereby, confirmed in the same manner, and under the same restrictions, as the report, to which this was supplementary, was confirmed, by the act of the twenty-ninth of April, one thousand eight hundred and sixteen.

Chap. XXI.—An Act to provide for the employment of an additional naval force.
Sums respectively appropriated for the navy, for 1826.Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, That the following sums be, and they are hereby, respectively appropriated, for defraying the expenses of the navy for the year one thousand eight hundred and twenty-six, in addition to the sums heretofore appropriated by law for that object, that is to say:
Pay and subsistence of petty officers and seamen, &c.For pay and subsistence of petty officers, and for pay of seamen, other than those at navy yards, shore stations, and in ordinary, sixty-six thousand eight hundred and ninety-seven dollars.
Provisions.For provisions, forty-three thousand eight hundred and sixty-eight dollars.
Medicines, &c.For medicines and hospital stores, four thousand dollars.
Repairs, &c. of vessels.For repairs, and wear and tear of vessels, ninety thousand dollars.
To be paid from the treasury.

Proviso.Sec. 2.
