incident to the administration of the Organized Reserves, including the maintenance and operation of motor-propelled passenger-carrying vehicles; for transportation of baggage, including packing and crating, of reserve officers on active duty for not less than six months; and for the preparation and transportation to their homes of the remains of members of the Organized Reserves who die while on active duty, $400,000:
Proviso.
Division and regiment headquarters.Provided, That not to exceed $100,000 of this amount may be used for establishment and maintenance of divisional and regimental headquarters.
Other funds not to be used.None of the funds appropriated elsewhere in this Act shall be used for expenses in connection with the Organized Reserves but available supplies and existing facilities at military posts shall be utilized to the fullest extent possible.
Period of pay for officers.
No portion of this appropriation shall be expended for the pay
of a reserve officer on active duty for a longer period than fifteen days, General staff duty. except such as may be detailed for duty with the War Department General Staff under section 3a and section 5 (b) of the
Army Reorganization ActVol. 41, pp. 760, 765. approved June 4, 1920, Other details. or who may be detailed for courses of instruction at the general or special service schools of the Army, or who may be detailed for duty as instructors at civilian military training camps, appropriated for in this Act, or who may be detailed for duty with tactical units of the Air Service, as provided in section 37a of the Army Reorganization ActVol. 41, p. 776. approved June 4, 1920: Provided further Proviso.
Medical Reserve Bureau patients. That the pay and allowances of such additional officers and nurses of the Medical Reserve Corps for Veterans' Corps as are required to supplement the like officers and nurses of the Regular Army in the care of beneficiaries of the United States Veterans' Bureau treated in Army hospitals may be paid from the funds allotted to the War Department by that bureau under existing law.
Officers' Reserve Training Corps.
RESERVE OFFICERS' TRAINING CORPS.
Quartermaster supplies, etc., to units of. For the procurement, maintenance, and issue, under such regulations as may be prescribed by the Secretary of War, to institutions at which one or more units of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps are maintained, of such public animals, means of transportation, supplies, tentage, equipment, and uniforms as he may deem necessary, including cleaning and laundering of uniforms and clothing at camps; and to forage at the expense of the United States public animals so issued, and to pay commutation in lieu of uniforms at a rate to be fixed annually by the Secretary of War; for transporting said animals and other authorized supplies and equipment from place of issue to the several institutions and training camps Expenses of training camps. and return of same to place of issue when necessary; for the establishment and maintenance of camps for the further practical instruction of the members of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, and for transporting members of such corps to and from such camps, and to subsist them while traveling to and from such camps and while remaining therein so far as appropriations will permit;Commutation of travel allowance. or in lieu of transporting them to and from such camps and subsisting them while en route, to pay them travel allowance at the rate of 5 cents per mile for the distance by the shortest usually traveled route from the places from which they are authorized to proceed to the camp and for the return travel thereto, and to pay the return travel pay in advance of the actual performance of the travel; for pay for students attending advanced camps at the rate prescribed for soldiers of the seventh grade of the Regular Army; Subsistence, senior division. for the payment of commutation of subsistence to members of the senior division of the Reserve Officers' Training Corps, at a rate not exceeding the cost of the garrison ration prescribed for the Army,Vol. 39, p. 193; Vol 41, p. 776. as authorized in the
