Determining lines of exact levels. exceed $950,000 and for establishing and improving aids to naviga- tion and other works as may be specifically approved by the Secre- tary of Commerce, $920,000 ; in all, $1,870,000, to be immediately available . COAST AND GEODETIC SURVEY For every expenditure requisite for and incident to the work of the Coast and Geodetic Survey, including maintenance, repair, exchange, and operation of motor-propelled or horse-drawn vehicles for use in field work, purchase of motor cycles with side cars, inc lud- ing t heir exch ange, not to e xceed $1, 000, surve ying inst rumen ts, including their exchange, rubber boots, canvas and rubber gloves, goggles, and caps, coats, and aprons for stewards' departments on vesse ls, extra comp ensa tion at no t to exce ed $1 per day for e ach station to employees of the Lighthouse Service and the Weather Bureau while observing tides or currents, services of one tide observer in the District of Columbia at not to exceed $1 per day, and compensation, not otherwise appropriated for, of persons employed in the field work, commutation to officers of the field force while on field duty, at a rate not exceeding $3 per day each, and for expenses of attendance at meetings concerned with the work of the Coast and Geodetic Survey when incurred on the written author- ity of the Secretary of Commerce, to be expended in accordance , with the regulations relating to the Coast and Geodetic Survey subscribed by the Secretary of Commerce, and under the following heads : Field expenses, Atla ntic coast : For surveys and necessary resurveys of the Atlantic and Gulf coasts of the United States, includ- ing the coasts of outlying islands under the jurisdiction of the United S tates, $ 174,500 : Pro vided, That not more than $45,000 of thin amount shall be expended on the coasts of said outlying islands and the Atlantic entrance to the Panama Canal ; Pacific coast : For surveys and necessary resurveys of coasts on the Pacific Ocean under the jurisdiction of the United States, includ- ing not to exceed $3,000 for construction of temporary shelter for t he care of equip ment and housing of perso nnel, $3 15,000 ; Tides, currents, and so fort : For continuing researches in physical hydrography, relating to harbors and bars and for tidal and current observations on the coasts of the United Mates, or other coasts under the jurisdiction of the United States, $27,000 ; Coast Pilot : For compilation of the Coast Pilot, including the e mplo yment of s uch pilot s and nau tical expe rts, and steno grap hic help in the field and office as may be necessary for the same, $6,500 ; Magnetic work : For continuing magnetic and seismological obser- vations and to establish meridian lines in connection therewith in all parts of the United States ; making magnetic and seismological observations in other regions under the jurisdiction of the United States ; purchase of additional magnetic and seismological instru- ments ; lease of sites where necessary and the erection of temporary magnetic and seismological buildings ; and including the employ- ment in the field and office of such magnetic and seismological ob servers and steno graphic services as may be neces sary, $79 ,940 . Federal, boundary, and State surveys : For continuing lines of exact levels between the Atlantic, Pacific, and Gulf coasts ; deter- mining geographic positions by triangulation and traverse for the control of Federal, State, boundary, county, city, and other surveys and engineering works in all parts of the United States
