SALARIES For the pay and allowances of officers and members of the Metro- Salaries, officers, etc. politan police force, in accordance with the Act entitled "An Act to fix the salaries of the Metropolitan police force, the United Vol . 43, p. 174. States park police force, and the fire department of the District Ante, p .839. of Colu mbia " (43 Stat ., pp . 174-175 ), as a mended, includ ing co m- pensation at the rate of $2 ,100 per annum fo r the present ass istant property cl erk of the police department, $3,11 0,220 .

For miscellaneous and contingent expenses, including rewards for fugitives, purchase of modern revolvers and other firearms, maintenan ce of card system, stationery, city directories, books of ref eren ce, peri odic als, tel egrap hing , te leph onin g, p hotog raph s, r enta l and mainten ance of telet ype sys tem, ma intenan ce and servici ng of radio broadcasting system and equipment, gas, ice, washing, meals for prisoners, medals of award, not to exceed $300 for car tickets, not to exce ed $1,5 00 for travel and ot her exp enses o f membe rs of the force at the police school at Camp Perry, Ohio, furniture and repair thereto, beds and bed clothing, insignia of office, motor cycles, police equipments and repairs to same, repairs to vehicles, van, patrol wagons, and saddles, mounted equipment, flags and halyards, stor age of stolen or aba ndoned propert y, and traveli ng and other expenses incurred in prevention and detection of crime, and other necessary expenses, including expenses of harbor patrol, $67,800, of which amount a sum not exceeding $2,000 may be expended by the major and superintenden t of police for p revention and det ection of crime, under his certifi cate, approved by the commissioner s, and every suc h certificate shal l be deemed a suf ficient voucher f or the sum therei n expressed to have been expended : Provided, That the War Department may, in its discretion, furnish the commis- sioners for use of the police, upon requisition, such worn mounted equipment as may be required : Provided further, That the com- missioner s are authorized t o employ the elec trician of the Di strict Building to repair speedometers at such cost not exceeding $250 as they may approve, payment to be in addition to his regular compensation, and such services to be performed after regular working hours . For purchase and maintenance of passenger-carrying and other motor vehicles and the replacement of those worn out in the serv- ice and condemned, $72,500 . Uniforms : For furnishing uniforms and other official equipment prescribed by department regulations as necessary and requisite in the performance of duty to officers and members of the Metropoli- tan polic e, including clean ing, alteration, and repair of articles transferr ed from one indivi dual to another, $65,900 .
