ENGINEER EQUIPMENT OF TROOPS For pontoon material, tools, instruments, supplies, and appliances required for use in the engineer equipment of troops, for military surveys, and for engineer operations in the field, including the pur chase, m aintenanc e, opera tion, an d repair of the n ecessary motor cycles ; the purchase and preparation of engineer manuals and for a r eserve s upply of above eq uipment, $268,97 0 . ENGINEER OP ERATI ONS IN THE r1 .LLD For expenses incident to military engineer operations in the field, including the purchase of material and a reserve of material for such operations, the rental of storehouses within and outside of the District of Columbia, the operation, maintenance, and repair of ho rse-d rawn and motor -pro pelle d pas seng er-ca rryin g ve hicle s, fo r services of surveyors, survey parties, draftsmen, photographers, master laborers, clerks, and other employees to Engineer officers on the staffs of division, corps area, and department commanders, and such expenses as are ordinarily provided for under appropriations for " Engineer depots " and " Military surveys and maps," $96,740 Provide d, That wh en to th e interes t of the Governm ent, fun ds appro - priated under this head may be used for the purchase of options on materials for use in engineer operations in the field : Provided further, That so much of this appropriation as is necessary to pro- vid e facili ties for engineer trainin g of tro ops may b e expend ed for military construction work of a temporary character at camps and cantonments and at training areas for training purposes only .
