(a) of section 1 of the Act entitled "An Act making it a felony with a end ed .5, p . 1551, pe nalty f or cer tain al iens to enter the Uni ted Sta tes of America un der cer tain c onditio ns in v iolatio n of la w," app roved M arch 4, 19 29 (Pub lic La w Numbe red 101 8, Seve ntieth Congres s), is amended to read as follows "That (a) if any alien has been arrested and deported in pursu- Depo rted a lien et- tempting to ree nter, ance of law, he shall be excluded from admission to the United States guilty of a felony wh ether s uch de portati on took place before or after the enactment of this Act, and if he enters or attempts t o enter th e United S tates after the expiration of sixty days after the enactment of this Act he shall be guilty of a felony and upon conviction thereof shall, unless a different penalty is otherwise expressly provided by law, be punished by imprisonment for not more than two years or by a fine of not more than $1,000, or by both such fine and imprisonment Provided, That this Act shall not apply to any alien arrested and Proviso. [Public, No . 22.] to Puget Sound, on the Pacific Coast, by the northern route," approved July 2, 1864, and to alter and amend a joint resolution entitled "Joint resolution authoriz- ing the Northern Pacific Railroad Company t o issue its bonds for the constructi on of its road and to secure the same by mortg age, and for other purposes," approv ed May 31, 1870 ; to declare forfeited to the United States certain claimed rights asserted by the Northern Pacific Railroad Company, or the Northern Pacific Railway C o m p a n y ; to direct the i nstitution and p rosecution of pr oceedings lookin g to the adjustment of the grant, and for other purposes .
