General officers. (b) Officers holding permanent appointments in any general officer grade in the Regular Army shall be known as general officers of the Regular Army. Appointments of officers in general officer grades in the Regular Army shall be made in the Medical Corps, in the Dental Corps, in the Veterinary Corps, and as chaplains; but otherwise they shall be made in the Regular Army without specification of branch, arm, or service.
