For compensation and expenses of officers and employees, as authorized by law, $19,453,315, including: Office of the Clerk, $4,151,245; Office of the Sergeant at Arms, $8,557,145; Office of the Doorkeeper, $3,330,860; Office of the Postmaster, $1,056,695; including $17,772 for employment of substitute messengers and extra services of regular employees when required at the salary rate of not to exceed $9,561 per annum each; Office of the Chaplain, $19,770; Office of the Parliamentarian, including the Parliamentarian and $2,000 for preparing the Digest of the Rules, $220,000; for compiling the precedents of the House of Representatives, $235,000; Official Reporters of Debates, $478,060; Official Reporters to Committees, $549,540; two printing clerks, one for the majority appointed by the majority leader and one for the minority appointed by the minority leader, $28,420 to be equally divided; a technical assistant in the Office of the Attending Physician, to be appointed by the Attending Physician subject to the approval of the Speaker, $25,540; the House Democratic Steering Committee, $292,520; the House Republican Conference, $292,520; and six minority employees, $216,000. Such amounts as deemed necessary for the payment of salaries of officers and employees within this appropriation may be transferred among offices upon the approval of the Committee on Appropriations of the House of Representatives.
