At this time another thrilling incident occurred, which deserves record. Vidyasagar's mother wrote to him desiring his presence home at the marriage of his younger brother Sambhu Chandra. When he applied for leave of absence Mr. Marshal did not see his way to grant it. Next day he renewed his efforts, intimating that he would rather give up the post than make his mother unhappy.
