11 The rich man is wise in his own conceit; but the poor that hath understanding searcheth him out. [1]
12 When righteous men rejoice, there is great glory: but when the wicked rise, a man is hidden. [2]
13 He that covereth his sins shall not prosper: but he who confesseth and forsaketh them shall have mercy.
14 Happy is the man that feareth always: but he that hardeneth his heart shall fall into mischief.
15 As a roaring lion, and a ranging bear; so is a wicked ruler over the poor people.
16 The prince that lacketh understanding is also a great oppressor: but he that hateth covetousness shall prolong his days.
17 A man that doeth violence to the blood of any person shall flee to the pit; let no man sustain him.
18 He who walketh uprightly shall be saved: but he that is perverse in his ways shall fall at once.
19 He that tilleth his land shall have plenty of bread: but he that followeth after vain persons shall have poverty enough.
20 A faithful man shall abound with blessings: but he that maketh haste to be rich shall not be innocent. [3]
21 To have respect of persons is not good: for for a piece of bread that man will transgress.
22 He that hasteneth to be rich hath an evil eye, and considereth not that poverty shall come upon him. [4]
23 He that rebuketh a man afterward shall find more favour than he that flattereth with the tongue.
24 He that robbeth his father or his mother, and saith, It is no transgression; the same is the companion of a destroyer. [5]
25 He that is of a proud heart stirreth up strife: but he that putteth his trust in the LORD shall be made fat.
26 He that trusteth in his own heart is a fool: but whoever walketh wisely, he shall be delivered.
27 He that giveth to the poor shall not want: but he that hideth his eyes shall have many a curse.
28 When the wicked rise, men hide themselves: but when they perish, the righteous increase.
CHAP. 29.
He, that being often reproved hardeneth his neck, shall suddenly be destroyed, and that without remedy. [6]
2 When the righteous are in authority, the people rejoice: but when the wicked beareth rule, the people mourn. [7]
3 He that loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.
4 The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that exacteth gifts overthroweth it. [8]
5 A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.
6 In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
7 The righteous considereth the cause of the poor: but the wicked regardeth not to know it .
8 Scornful men bring a city into a snare: but wise men turn away wrath. [9]
9 If a wise man contendeth with a foolish man, whether he rageth or laugheth, there is no rest.
10 The bloodthirsty hate the upright: but the just seek his soul. [10]
11 A fool uttereth all his mind: but a wise man keepeth it in till afterwards.
12 If a ruler hearkeneth to lies, all his servants are wicked.
13 The poor and the deceitful man meet together: the LORD giveth light to both their eyes. [11]
14 The king that faithfully judgeth the poor, his throne shall be established for ever.
15 The rod and reproof give wisdom: but a child left to himself bringeth his mother to shame.
16 When the wicked are multiplied, transgression increaseth: but the righteous shall see their fall.
17 Correct thy son, and he shall give thee rest; yea, he shall give delight to thy soul.
18 Where there is no vision, the people perish: but he that keepeth the law, happy is he. [12]
19 A servant will not be corrected by words: for though he understandeth he will not answer.
20 Seest thou a man that is hasty in his words? there is more hope of a fool than of him. [13]
21 He that delicately bringeth up his servant from a child shall have him at length become his son.
22 An angry man stirreth up strife, and a furious man aboundeth in transgression.
23 A man’s pride shall bring him low: but honour shall uphold the humble in spirit.
24 Whoever is partner with a thief hateth his own soul: he heareth cursing, and revealeth it not.
25 The fear of man bringeth a snare: but he who putteth his trust in the LORD shall be safe. [14]
26 Many seek the ruler’s favour; but every man’s judgment cometh from the LORD. [15]
27 An unjust man is an abomination to the just: and he that is upright in the way is abomination to the wicked.
