Thou might'st bide out as well as I:
Thy deeds no ways thou can'st deny,

Mind, quoth she, thy latter days,
What idle gods thou didst upset,
And was so lewd in Venus' plays,
Thou didst thy Maker qiute forget.
Then Jonas said fair dame content you,
If you intend to come to grace,
You must dree penance and repent you,
Ere you can come within this place.
Jonas, quoth she, how stand the case?
How came you here to be with Christ?
How dare you look him in the face?
Considering how yon broke your tryst?
To go God's errand thou withstood'st him,
And held his counsel in disdain;
