In 1910 "Man's Redemption of Man" was delivered at a service for the students at the University of Edinburgh. Osier unconsciously chose as his text from Isaiah what he himself has been to those who knew him.

And a man shall be as an hiding-place from the wind, and a covert from the tempest; as rivers of water in a dry place; as the shadow of a great rock in a weary land.
