“He gave the following series of associations”: In the text on the page, there is no distinct mark following the ‘s’ in associations, but the spacing in the text implies that there is a mark following the ‘s’, as otherwise, the ‘s’ would be at the end of the line. Because the typography in this text often surrounds ‘:’ with spaces, it seemed natural to read the line as “He gave the following series of associations : ”, which is what I've produced here.
