- w:President John Quincy Adams was Henry's grandfather, and President John Adams was his great-grandfather
- Henry says here that he saw Quincy and Boston as having different styles. Boston, that is the family residence in the large city of Boston, had "Bath-rooms, water-supplies, lighting, heating and the whole array of domestic comforts." The Quincy residence was smaller and simpler and did not have these things.
- There is also a reference to a "country-house at Medford" -- that is, w:Medford, Massachusetts
