TO A WATCH
Thing of beauty, made for duty,
Ever ticking without rest,
Thou art sleeping in good keeping
On a peerless maiden's breast,
Thou art nearest to her dearest
Hopes and longings all unguessed.

O discover if another
Of her graces is possessed,
For her favor would forever
Make me dearly doubly blessed,
And no burden e'er would sadden
If her love I once possessed.
