Philosophical Transactions of the Royal Society is a scientific journal published by the Royal Society, begun in 1665. The abridgement series printed in 1809 covers the content of the original volumes covering the period 1665-1800. The biographies were new in the 1809 publication, apparently written by the abridgement editors.
