IF THOU KNEWEST.
If thou knewest, only knewest,Who it is that seeks to win thee,From the path of wrong and sorrow;Breathing hope of brighter morrow;
Thou would' St bow thy stubborn will;That thy life-cup He might fill,With the living water pure,With the peace that will endure.
If thou knewest of the gladnessThat shall take the place of sadness;When the soul from guilt set free,Bathes in light and purity:
If thou knewest, only knewest,That to break the chains of sin;And the heart's closed door to open,Lets the heavenly Healer in:
If thou knewest—tempted soul,Take courage, He can make thee whole,Then, thou, like her at Sychar's well,The story of the Christ shalt tell.
