Hope! thou sweet, yet faithless fair! Ne'er wake again thy smiles for me;For I am doom'd the slave of care, The daughter of Despondency.
I hail'd thee, like the op'ning morn, From gloomy night's dark phantoms free;—But thou hast left me more forlorn— The daughter of Despondency!
