A GARLAND GIVEN
If thou hast a pleasant thought Of a friend to-day, Art inclined his deeds to praise, Such a wish obey.
If some hungry soul would feed On thy love to-day Oh, I plead, withhold it not, Cheer him on his way.
Wait not till on marble brow There shall fall thy tear; To him strength and courage give While he struggles here.
Thus a garland, fadeless, fair, Thou mayst ever weave, And for kindnesses undone, Needst thou never grieve.
