SONG.
Give me one smile, for my heart is sad, And gloomier thoughts are mine to-day—Give me one smile, for I would be glad,Beneath the light of its cheering ray! As the flower lifts up to the rainbow sky Its tearful glance, when the storm is past, I would catch one ray from thy smiling eye—Perchance to greet me 'twill be the last!
And sing one song, for its playful tone May find an echo within my breast; Though my heart hath slumbered so long alone, I fear it hath sunk to its final rest. Yes, sing! for the incense above the dead,Hath risen from the altar's holy shrine: And song for the light of a spirit fled, May be hallowed by lips so pure as thine.
