SONG.
Give me one smile, for my heart is sad,
And gloomier thoughts are mine to-day—
Give me one smile, for I would be glad,
Beneath the light of its cheering ray!
As the flower lifts up to the rainbow sky
Its tearful glance, when the storm is past,
I would catch one ray from thy smiling eye—
Perchance to greet me 'twill be the last!

And sing one song, for its playful tone
May find an echo within my breast;
Though my heart hath slumbered so long alone,
I fear it hath sunk to its final rest.
Yes, sing! for the incense above the dead,
Hath risen from the altar's holy shrine:
And song for the light of a spirit fled,
May be hallowed by lips so pure as thine.
