THE LIP MAY SMILE.
The lip may smileWith beauty's wile,Though grief corrode the heart; And who may knowThe secret woeIt cannot all impart?
The laugh as brightAs sunny lightMay banish others' care; And who may guessThe hopelessnessOf grief they cannot share?
The brow may wearNo trace of care,Though darkling sorrows lower; And who will thinkThe heart doth shrink'Neath sorrow's blighting power?
