I LOVE THEE YET.
Though change has passed upon thy heart,And all thy early truth is gone,Believe me, I will love thee still,As fond as I have ever done;Though weeks and months have passed away,Since I thy look of coldness met,And though we parted coolly then,I love, I prize thee; fondly yet.
I never thought, I never dreamed,That time could change such love as thine,Alas! how weak was I to weighAnother's truth and love by mine;I look upon the sunny hoursI spent with thee, and no regretComes o'er my spirit, for my heartStill loves thee deeply,—fondly yet.
O! mine is not a heart to castAffection's holy trust away,When once it loves it still remainsUnaltered to life's latest day; When I survey the broken tiesOf friendship, tears my eyelids wet,And though thy heart is changed—alas!I love thee, prize thee fondly yet.
