LINES WRITTEN ON A MUTUAL ACQUAINTANCE.
Old Winter has arrived in town,
He came last night by the express,
And though he hasn't told his plans,
He'll make a lengthy stay, I guess.

I met him on my way to church,
He joined me with a frigid smile;
In vain I hoped to see him thaw,
Although he walked with me a mile.

In fact he hasn't changed at all,
He's just the same hard, crusty fellow,
And will be to the end of time,
No age will ever make him mellow.
