'TWIXT DARK AND DAWN
The stars, like blazing coalsIn the black grate of Night,Invite sad, lonely soulsUnto their warmth and light. While gazing on the starsImagination hasFull play, and nothing marsThe shapes there pictured, asThe flame which emanatesTherefrom, doth seem to frameFaces of spirit-mates,Forevermore the same,—E'en when the star-fire's flashLess, and still lesser glows,And dies beneath the ashWhich Dawn upon it throws.
