AMBITION
I crave no earthly height but Calvary;Nor earthly throne but an uplifted cross,Where all men may a loyal subject seeOf Heaven's King, despite all earthly loss!
I crave no jewels prey of earthly price;I covet not earth's royal diadems; For me the covered crown of sacrificeBlood-gemmed,—God's roses bloomed on thorny stems.
No scepter would I wield, save over thoseWhose needs creep hungrily life's gate within;Nor slaying sword would lift 'gainst any foesSave those which answer to the call of Sin!
