ONE OF ALL
We all commence; we cannot take up lifeWhere others lay it down—where slowed and stoppedSome heart 'mid all the circling, rushing strife,—But we can lift the work which they have droppedFrom stiffened hands, and to completion bringThe grand design they with their moments weaved,Our threads may join with theirs, and fashioningBy the one plan, their thought may be achievedBy our live deeds. God's hand the threads doth reachTo each of us, and He all doing fits.—Tis but one Work, and this doth also teachThat Life is one, though broken into bits.We all commence, but unity exists;—The All is one, and Each is one of allIn Life per se, now hid by earthly mists;—One perfect chain to God doth all the links enthrall.
