Poems (Kimball)/The Lilacs
Appearance
THE LILACS.
HEAVY with fragrance and with dew,
I see them in the moonlight pale,—
The lilac-plumes that, two and two,
Nod to the wind's low wail.
I see them in the moonlight pale,—
The lilac-plumes that, two and two,
Nod to the wind's low wail.
Purple and white, I see them wave,—
Purple for valor, white for truth;
And far away I see a grave
Where lies the flower of youth!
Purple for valor, white for truth;
And far away I see a grave
Where lies the flower of youth!
